Hello Monterey Park Families,
My name is Kelly Christopher and I’m very excited to be the new principal of Monterey Park School. It has been a very busy start up, with lots of things going on. So far I have been really impressed with the staff and with all of the students!
I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible. I hope to see you at the upcoming Welcome Back
Picnic. Our first school council meeting of the year will be on Tuesday, September 24 at 6:00 PM at the school. School council is a great place to learn more about what is happening at Monterey Park and we really value getting feedback about what we are planning from our families. Please come.

Welcome Back Picnic
Join us on Thursday, September 19 from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM. Come and meet your child’s new teacher and then head outside for a picnic with family and friends. Food trucks will be onsite and you can purchase dinner or bring food from home for your family to enjoy.
Feel free to bring lawn chairs or a blanket. We will eat outside and children can play on the school playground.

Please join us for our first school council meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 24 at 6:00 PM.
Each meeting, a group of students will present some of their learning to the group. Come out and learn what is happening at Monterey Park School and help your school council make decisions about your child’s education.

Provincial Mandate - Cell Phones in Alberta Schools
The Alberta government has issued new policy around the use of cell phones in Alberta schools. At Monterey Park School, the following applies to the 2024-25 school year.
NO cell phones are to be used by students during school hours.
If a student is using a cell phone at school, they will be asked to store it in their backpack.
If they use it a second time, the cell phone will be held by the teacher until the end of the school day.
If the cell phone is used a third time at school, it will be held at the office until a legal parent or guardian can meet with a member of the admin team.
Cell phones onsite are the responsibility of the student/parent. There is a risk of loss or breakage, and the school is not responsible should this occur.
