Hello Monterey Park Families,

It’s Healthy Hunger day today! Students who have ordered will be snacking on popcorn.

We launched our SKAMPS Games of Kindness this morning. Be sure to ask your child how their secret missions are going. Students and staff will be playing until the end of February.

Ramadan is fast approaching. We will be hosting an assembly on Thursday, February 27 at 10 am. Parents and families are welcome to attend. We will be sharing stories of Ramadan and announcing a school-wide MPS community service project that will take place during the month of March to honour this cultural tradition.

Staff are looking forward to Teacher’s Convention and we hope you all are looking forward to a long Family Day weekend. Due to the short week next week, there will be no Wednesday Weekly message on February 19.

If you have any questions or just want to pop in and say hello…please let us know!

Blue Days at MPS

When the weather is COLD (-20 and below) students stay indoors for recess. Please do not drop your children off too early in the am. School doors open at 9 am.

Transportation

We now have 5 busses for MPS students. It is important to leave the length of the West sidewalk free of vehicles so that the busses can pull into the curb.

Monterey Park Continuum of Engagement

When students are engaged in a task and interested in what they are doing, they participate.

They cooperate with their teacher and others, pay attention and seem ready to learn.

Sometimes, we want to push them a little harder and give them a little more challenge. We want them to be excited and take their ideas and learning further, maybe even in a direction we hadn’t thought of.

That’s when they move beyond just participating and they start investing in their learning.

Teachers’ Convention

What do teachers do when it’s teachers’ convention? They attend sessions at Calgary’s Telus Convention Center. Many sessions are offered on topics ranging from literacy and mathematics to art and music.
