Hello Monterey Park Families

Thank you to those families and friends who came out to see Music is in All of Us last week. Ms. Leipert and our Division II students worked so hard to bring you an entertaining performance and they enjoyed sharing it. Our Division I students are up next with a performance scheduled for May. More information to follow.

Our Healthy Hunger snack day is February 12. Order your popcorn by February 5.

Valentine’s Day is coming up. This year at MPS, students are welcome to celebrate this event on Feb 12 if they wish. If your child wants to share Valentine’s Day cards in their class, we ask that you make one for everyone. Teachers will send class lists with first names only upon request. Any food items that come along with Valentine’s Day cards will be sent home with students. We also ask that any baked goods come with a list of ingredients in case of student allergies.

School-wide, students and staff will be playing our SKAMPS Secret Agent Game to celebrate acts of kindness.

If you have any questions or just want to pop in and say hello…please let us know!

Blue Days at MPS

When the weather is COLD (-20 and below) students stay indoors for recess. Please do not drop your children off too early in the am. School doors open at 9 am.

Parking & Drop-off

We now have 5 busses for MPS students. It is important to leave the length of the West sidewalk free of vehicles so that the busses can pull into the curb.

Monterey Park Continuum of Engagement

School Goal: Student achievement in literacy and mathematics will increase.

Outcome: Students will be intellectually engaged in rich learning tasks.

This school goal is taken out of our current Monterey Park School Development Plan. Staff have been working on building the Continuum of Engagement that you see in the photo below. By engaging students in rich learning tasks and encouraging them to participate and invest in their own learning as they work towards driving it, we are striving to have better student achievement in both literacy and numeracy.

At any point in our learning, we can all experience each level of the continuum. Students in the disrupting and avoiding levels also have opportunities to learn and see their school experience in new ways as they strive to be better participants in the process.
