Hello Monterey Park Families
This week we are sharing the story and legacy of Terry Fox and our staff and students will be running to raise money for cancer awareness on Friday, September 13. Family members are welcome to come out and join us. All are welcome.
We have enjoyed seeing many of you on the school grounds or in the office. We like to see you at the school and look forward to letting you know about upcoming volunteer opportunities. Please come to our first school council meeting on September 24 at 6:00pm at the school to learn more.
If you have any questions, or if we can help in any way, please feel free to contact us.

Terry Fox Run
Join us on Friday, September 13 to participate in running to raise money for cancer awareness. K-3 students will run from 9:45-10:30 and 4-6 students will run from 10:45-11:30 on the school field. You are welcome to run or to watch your children.
Send a “Toonie for Terry” to school and have your child’s name entered into a draw for an official Terry Fox t-shirt. Toonies can be handed in to your child’s teacher. You can also choose to make an online donation at terryfoxschoolrun.org
School Council
Please join us for our first school council meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 24 at 6:00pm.
Each meeting, a group of students will present some of their learning to the group. Come out and learn what is happening at Monterey Park School and help your school council make decisions about your child’s education.
Any questions? Visit the School Council table that will be set up during the Welcome Back Picnic on September 19.
Babysitting available in gym.

What Did You Do in School Today?
Sometimes it’s hard to get your child to talk about their day. Here are some good conversation starters to use if you’re wondering what really happens at Monterey Park School:
- Tell me the most interesting thing about your day today.
- Tell me something that you learned today at school.
- Tell me about a mistake you made today. (We learn from our mistakes!)
- Tell me something about another person at school today.
- Tell me about something kind you did today.
Traffic Safety
The signs at the front of the school have been changed by the City of Calgary. Please read them carefully. There is NO parking in this zone. There is a 10 minute drop off zone, just past the driveway to the staff parking lot. Please pay attention to all signs.
